Caulking and painting your home's exterior (window and door trim, house trim, and any other wood areas around your home's exterior) is a great idea before temperatures start to drop below 50 degrees average nightly. Taking care of these areas now will ensure your home's exterior will not be penetrated by snow, ice, water, or cold air.
1. Identify wet rot, dry rot, or missing chunks and indents on your wood trim.
2. Fill holes, gaps and cracks with wood filler and/or caulking. Let it dry.
3. Sand wood filler down to make it smooth. Add another coat if necessary.
4. Paint over these areas. Now you're ready for the cold season!
